Agents at Risk of Burnout as Market Activity Surges This Summer

According to GetAgent, it looks like Ellis Brooke is going to be extra busy this summer, but don't worry, we're here to help anyone who needs assistance selling their home in Rugby.

Estate agents are being warned about the risk of burnout, as research suggests that 37% of property professionals won’t be taking a summer holiday this year. This alarming statistic comes from a survey conducted by GetAgent, which found that nearly a quarter (24%) of agents are anticipating an increase in market activity. They are preparing for what is traditionally the busiest time of the year for the property market, necessitating all available manpower.

However, this increased activity comes with a downside. The same survey revealed that 40% of respondents feel at a higher risk of experiencing burnout during the summer months. This concern is compounded by the fact that one-fifth of respondents rarely take leave, focusing instead on their professional development. Another 19% are postponing their holidays until after the election to see how the market reacts.

Burnout is not a seasonal issue; it extends beyond the summer. The survey indicated that 34% of agents are unlikely to take any annual leave following the summer season. Additionally, 24% stated that they are unlikely to use all their allocated annual leave by the end of the year, with 14% admitting they did not take any leave last year.

Colby Short, chief executive of GetAgent, commented on the situation: “The summer period is traditionally the busiest time of the year for the UK property market. Many agents will be anticipating an uplift in market activity with momentum now building, not to mention the potential boost of a rate cut on the horizon. As a result, the very best agents will be putting any plans of a well-earned break on hold to ensure they maximise the earning opportunities available to them, whilst also ensuring they have the manpower to do so properly.”

Short emphasised the importance of balancing professional commitment with personal well-being: “While the desire to go above and beyond is an admirable one, those who are set for a summer of hard work need to ensure they take the appropriate measures to avoid burnout. While they may have no plans to take an extended period of annual leave, we all need a little bit of personal time to recharge. This is crucial for maintaining the high service levels we provide.”
